APPLICATION IN FORMATIVE AND SUMATIVE TEST ADMINISTRATION

ABSTRACT

​

Computers are widely used as a medium of assessment in schools and universities. It can help educators and students undergo more engaging and interactive teaching and learning processes. The sophistication in mobile phone technology has created a new lifestyle in the education of the younger generation. Manually, the teacher is very difficult to construct a test question based on the specification schedule set due to time constraints, typing difficulties and difficulty in analyzing questions and analyzing student achievement. Excel Smart Assessment Management or abbreviation E-SAM is an innovative project developed based on MS Excel application software. Testing in the E-SAM application can be run paperless using a computer or smartphone with on-line internet access or without internet off-line. The E-SAM function is as a bank of questions, specification schedule form, manual question paper tamplet, tamplet set of computerized test questions (paperless), questionnaire quality analysis based on difficulty level and cognitive level, comprehensive student performance analysis and student record reports. The pilot project was implemented in two institutions namely Kolej Islam Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah (a teacher and 18 students) and SMK Seri Mahkota Kuantan (a teacher and 22 students). Feedback received is very positive and the software is very effective. The time to build 50 test questions is only five minutes, automatic manual question preparation, paperless test set can be distributed on-line and off-line, the quality of the questions can be analyzed according to the schedule of specifications, scoring and grading automatically, individual and group student performance analysis and analysis of the contesting each question is done automatically and comprehensively. This E-SAM application is suitable for all levels of study.

OBJECTIVES

 

The E-SAM innovation project is specifically designed to help teachers manage construction and test operations, as well as to ease teachers' burden, increase efficiency and effectiveness, embrace technology in service and build confidence in careers. Through this app, teachers can provide their exam and management easily and uniformly.

 

This E-SAM is specially built to achieve the following objectives

• Allows the teacher to build and store questions in the question bank

• Make it easy to work because there is no need to type the question repeatedly.

• Perform tests on paperless (on-line and/or off-line).

• Make comprehensive analysis automatically.

• Improve efficiency and cost effectiveness

 

MATERIALS AND METHODS

 

E-SAM is an MS Excel application software based innovation project. Through this software, teachers can provide test questions and are easy and uniform. The E-SAM project can be conducted off-line and does not require internet access. Users (teachers) who already have MS Excel software (MS Office 2007 and above) do not require installation and do not require additional licenses.

 

The system was completed in April 2018. The pilot project was implemented in two institutions, namely Pahang Islamic College Sultan Ahmad Shah (a teacher and 18 students) and SMK Seri Mahkota Kuantan (a teacher and 22 students). The interest shown by the students as well as the ability of the system to function properly in executing the task of this trial assures that the system can be fully utilized.

This E-SAM application is suitable for all levels of study. Some improvements have been made from time to time based on feedback received.

 

COMMERSIAL VALUE

 

• The innovations implemented impact the users involved as follows, Teacher, Student and Administrator (Committee / Principal)

• Save time and cost. The system allows for faster processing automatically.

• Data analysis is quicker and easier to implement through a pre-programmed system. Users can easily integrate information as required by stakeholders. The data analyzed can also be achieved by the teacher without having to wait a long time.

• The use of paper can be saved thus creating a paperless environment-supporting the concept of green earth.

• Increase productivity. The data provided is more accurate and accessible at any time.

• Teacher time to analyze can be saved and teachers can focus on teaching and learning (PdP) work - not burdened with management and clerical tasks.

• Data is always up to date every time. Teachers can also supply information quickly based on the right format because the data can be integrated easily, quickly and accurately.

 

RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS

 

The E-SAM system is a computer application developed specifically to facilitate the administration of tests and examinations conducted by the school. This E-SAM system facilitates teachers and school administrators in the management to develop, review and process assessment items. With this innovation project, routine work of teachers can be made faster, easier and produce more quality and precise output.
